In the North West corner of the South Island of New Zealand a long-forgotten gold miners’ road has been revived as a mountain biking and tramping trail – connecting the old dray road in the Lyell (Upper Buller Gorge) to the mighty Mokihinui River in the north. The 85km-long Old Ghost Road traverses majestic native forest, open tussock tops, river flats and forgotten valleys.
You will need to have experience in multi day hikes, be able to carry all of your gear, including food for 5 days/4 nights and have a good level of fitness and outdoor ability. A detailed itinerary, gear list and suggested food items will be sent out to registered participants.
Cost includes: transport from Nelson to trail start near Westport and return, huts on the trail and accommodation before and after the trail (including one breakfast and one dinner)
